Ska verkligen följa dett projekt, verkar mycket intressant. Någon som vet något mer?Swedish Immigrants in the United States, 1860-2000
Kirk Scott (associate professor at the Centre for Economic Demography and the Department of Economic History, Lund University) will present his ongoing research: “Three Generations in the New World. Swedish Immigrants in the United States, 1860-2000”. It is common knowledge in Sweden today that roughly one million Swedes left their homes seeking a better life in the New World. Few, however, ponder on the fact that these emigrants gave rise to over 4 million individuals currently living in the United States. A recent study by Rooth & Scott has shown that this group tends to have a strong connection to their "Swedish" background and has tended to maintain the geographic concentrations chosen by their parents and grandparents. This study also finds indications that while the first generation of Swedes in the United States appeared by no means remarkable, their children and grandchild seem to have been more successful than the average Americans. The proposed project will examine in detail the labor market outcomes of Swedes and their progeny in relation to native Americans and other immigrant groups.
